Elections, Mysteries, and More - Our October Newsletter

Hi everyone,

We’re getting in touch with the next edition of our monthly newsletters, keeping you up to date with everything going on Harry Potter and Quidditch Society related for this month.

Voting Now Open Voting is currently open to vote in a few new members of committee. You can check out the candidates and vote at https://www.exeterguild.org/elections/candidates/1525/ and we really insist that you guys do, as it’s one of the main ways you can help determine the direction of the society. Voting is open until noon this Sunday.

Upcoming Events Thank you to everyone who has come to our events so far, and we’re determined to go forward with more of the events you have enjoyed from watch parties to games nights. Our next event is a virtual murder mystery next week on Thursday (22nd). To attend this event, you will need to put your name down for a free ticket via the Guild website, as we are only able to have a limited number of attendees, and tickets are available until they run out or next Monday.

Following this, our next events are going to be on the other side of the reading week. If you have anything you’re wanting to see in terms of events, feel free to let us know via any of our social media. We are really hoping to be able to run some sort of in-person event sometime soon, but this is currently not permitted by Guild guidelines. We will be doing our best to stick to these guidelines, so events are going to remain virtual until these change.

#AllWizardsAreWelcome Campaign and Fundraising As ever, a reminder to get involved with our social media campaign to get #AllWizardsAreWelcome trending on social media. We’ve been very appreciative for other societies who have indicated interest in getting involved, and are hoping for some involvement from the wider community. We are also continuing our JustGiving fundraiser for UK LGBTQ+ charity Mermaids at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/university-of-exeter-harry-potter-quidditch-society. Anything you can contribute helps transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse young people and children.

Quidditch As mentioned in our September newsletter, we are aware of a few people interested in Quidditch. We currently have plans in place to do training sessions when we are permitted to, in line with all necessary guidelines. We will recommend again that you check out our facebook page www.facebook.com/UoEQuidditch or our instagram www.instagram.com/exetereagles.

Keeping in Touch If you’re wanting to make sure you’re up to date with everything we’re doing, then you should follow us on our social media pages:

You can also check out our website at https://exeter-uni-hp-soc.wixsite.com/exeter-uni-hp-soc. If you’re wanting to take part in discussions in all things Harry Potter, then you can also join our Discord server at https://discord.gg/F3sKAFW.

We’d just like to conclude that we realise that current circumstances are difficult to cope with. If you are struggling, feel free to reach out, but we do ask that people respect and follow guidelines put in place by the university for our protection, as not following the rules now will only lead to harsher rules being put in place. The only way we can get through this is to work together, in more senses than one. Be kind, and stay safe.

Magical regards, Callum, Kieron, Georgia, and Kim -HPQSoc Committee
