What's in a Name?

From its humble beginnings in 2013, the University of Exeter Harry Potter Society has grown into one of the most popular student groups on campus. The Society’s recent name change to The Harry Potter and Quidditch Society represents this growth. The Society is not just a bunch of fans, nerding out over a fictional character. We are volunteers, leaders, sportsmen and women and, above all, friends. The change of name was intended not only to represent the inclusion of the Quidditch Club with the Society but also the inclusivity offered to members. One thing the Harry Potter and Quidditch Society committee strives to achieve is a welcoming environment for all students, for anyone who has a love for the magic of the Potter-verse. For many, Harry Potter is more than just a book series. It contains messages and ideas we can all relate to and consider. Above all, J.K Rowling’s work is about friendship, and it is this that the Society tries to replicate for its members. It is a place for students to make and enjoy friendships. Whether at socials, trips or Quidditch training, all are welcome.

This year, The Harry Potter and Quidditch Society is moving on to bigger and better things. The Quidditch team is growing and competing with some of the best and most experienced teams in Britain. Exeter Patronum has also been nominated for 'Amateur Team of the Year' at the 2016 Express & Echo Sports Awards. This website is also a new addition. It is a place for you to follow the House competition, meet the committee, find answers to your questions about the Society and follow events. It also brings you this monthly newsletter for updates on the Society and the world of Harry Potter and Quidditch. This is the place to be for any Potterhead.
