QUIDDITCH

What is Quidditch?
Quidditch, based on the fictional sport of the same name, is a gender neutral contact sport, with a focus on teamwork and inclusivity. Two teams face off in each match, each team comprised of:

  • 3 Chasers, who use the ‘quaffle’ to score through hoops (each hoop worth 10 points)

  • 1 Keeper, who takes the lead with chasers, as well as defending their team’s hoops.

  • 2 Beaters, who use ‘bludgers’ to help their team score and prevent the other team from scoring.

  • 1 Seeker, who is responsible for catching the snitch which ends the game (and is worth 30 points)

It’s an unconventional and interesting sport, with plenty of ways to get involved, and a fantastic community from across the UK and the world to join.

Who are the Exeter Eagles?

It’s needless to say that Exeter has a strong, inherent connection to the Harry Potter series, so it’s only right that we have our own Quidditch team. Exeter Quidditch Club was formed back in 2014 and has been involved in a varying scale of tournaments, from local to national. Members of our team have even gone on to compete at an international level as part of Team UK. Our team has also received a commendation in a nomination for Amateur Team of the year by local newspaper the Express and Echo. Despite some struggles with numbers, the team is committed to playing Quidditch at a high level, whilst still being welcoming to people of any sporting ability. We don’t require try-outs for people to get involved, only a willingness to get involved. You can check out some of our achievements in the timeline below, and a more complete history at our QUK page.
